Description
At the present state of excavation only one face of the capital is visible. The abacus is undecorated. The echinus features an egg pattern with an ovular shape between them and two palmettes extending from the volutes. The moulding of of the details is precise, yet soft and slightly doughy. The outline that delineates the decorative pattern is the deepest carving of the piece, measuring no more than 5 cm deep. The execution of these mouldings is consistent throughout. Two setting lines are visible on the upper surface. The overall volume of the capital is geometric, with the ovolo moulding receeding towards the neck at a sharp 45 degree angle.
